Chicken is a meat that is consumed all over the world, and known for its versatile ways to be prepared. Chicken is most commonly known for being grilled or fried, and can be delicious both ways. Many people prefer fried chicken over grilled chicken, but is the taste worth the possible health issues?

Fried chicken is documented to cause weight gain and has no great health benefits. Grilled chicken has the opposite effect and it also retains its nutritional value when consumed. Overall, grilled chicken offers better health, nutrition, and taste if cooked the right way compared to fried chicken.

Fried chicken requires oil for it to be cooked, and that is its first downfall healthwise. The oil gives food high fat content, calories, and salt to any food used with it. A study by Reuter’s Health proved that women who eat fried chicken daily are 13 percent more likely to die prematurely. According to WebMD, fried chicken and other fried foods can lead to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Grilled Chicken is better for the body because it loses its fat during the cooking process. The fat will drip off the meat during the cooking process. This cooking method also provides iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc to the consumer. Frying chicken will cause it to lose these essential vitamins.

Taste is a common reason why people prefer their chicken fried over grilled, but there are plenty of ways to make grilled chicken taste amazing. The chicken can be cut up and put into salads, wraps, sandwiches, kebab sticks, or most known by eating it with veggies. Margaritas can go well with grilled chicken if done the right way. Margaritas are a fan favorite for cooling off during the summer months, some like it on the

rocks, straight up, or as a frozen treat, but here is great way the whole family, a small dinner,

a party, or just a dinner for two, can enjoy the flavors of a margarita in a healthy meal.

Margarita Chicken

1 cup fresh cilantro, coarsely chopped

Zest/juice of 2 limes and 1 orange

1/2 cup light mayonnaise

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon green pepper sauce

2 lb. chicken drumsticks

Large zip-top bag

Non Stick aluminum foil

Sea Salt and pepper

Chop cilantro. Zest/grate lime and orange peel; squeeze limes and orange for juice. Combine in

medium bowl: mayonnaise, oil, cumin, pepper sauce, cilantro, lime and orange juice, and lime

and orange zest. Reserve 1/2 cup marinade for later use. Place remaining marinade and chicken

in a zip-top bag, seal bag and toss to coat. Let stand for 10 minutes or overnight to marinate.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 450°F. Line the baking sheet with foil. Arrange chicken 2 inches apart on a baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and pepper; bake for 12 minutes. Turn chicken over; bake for 12 more minutes or until chicken is 165°F. Brush reserved marinade over chicken, serve withSpanish rice or over the top of black beans and a nice Pico salsa.
