What is 'Complete Nutrition'? - Soylent (2024)

Written by: Dietitian - Nicolette DeAngelis, RDN, LDN

“Complete”, “comprehensive”, “all-in-one”, and “balanced” are words that imply a meal has everything you need to be healthy. When you hear the words “complete nutrition”, you may even visualize a well-balanced meal like salmon with whole wheat pasta and a spinach salad, this may seem like a complete meal, but what makes it complete?

The combination of a lean protein, slow digesting carbohydrates, healthy fats, and a micronutrient-rich vegetable round out a “complete” meal because it contains macronutrients and vitamins and minerals. These are essential nutrients. When we describe a food as essential, it means that our body cannot produce the components and we must get them through our diet.

Soylent products are classified as “complete nutrition” because they contain protein, healthy fats, slower digesting carbohydrates and a comprehensive dose of vitamins and minerals.

Plant Protein
Soy protein isolate is a complete plant protein, meaning it contains all of the essential amino acids. Essential amino acids cannot be made in our bodies, so we must obtain them from food. Amino acids are the building blocks of cells and tissues in our bodies, including muscle.

Healthy Fats
The healthy fats in Soylent products provide omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Slow Digesting Carbs
The allulose in Soylent drinks is a slower digesting carbohydrate that does not cause as steep of a rise in blood glucose as table sugar.

Essential Nutrients
In addition to the above macronutrients, Soylent products round out their complete profile by offering a balanced meal’s worth of vitamins and minerals.

How is Soylent different?
Soylent differs from other shakes or powders that only offer protein without all the other components of a “complete” meal. In addition, other popular nutrition supplements can contain more sugar than you may want in a meal replacement. While these options may be suitable for certain needs, Soylent products make it easy to get a balance of nutrients all in one place.

Whether you’re looking to help manage your weight or just replace a meal on a busy day, Soylent is a complete meal option that makes it easy to stay on track with your nutrition goals.
