These are the sweet and salty cookies of your dreams!

It’s no surprise at this point that I’m obsessed with all things monster cookie related. These kitchen sink cookies are no different. They’re loaded up with all of my favourite add-ins. The best part about this recipe is that you can customize it however you’d like!

The cookies come together in one bowl. The flavour of the cookie dough is very similar to sugar cookies. It uses both dark brown sugar and white sugar, and a lot of butter! All of the ingredients combined helps create that soft inside and crisp edge.

Why this recipe works

Easy to make – This recipe requires no chill time and are really quick to make! Enjoy them under 30 minutes.

All your favourites – Toss in all of your best add-ins! I used pretzel and potato chip pieces, M&M’s, white chocolate chips, and sprinkles.

Sweet & salty combo – The unbeatable combo! The saltiness from the pretzels and potato chip pieces pairs so well with the sweet chocolate and M&M’s.

Ingredient Notes

Full recipe and ingredients are in the recipe card below. Feel free to scroll through this section to view certain key ingredients we’re using!

Butter –I always use unsalted butter. This must be softened. Take out 2 hours prior to baking.

Dark brown sugar –This type ofbrown sugarcarries more molasses than lighter brown sugars, which helps create chewy cookie bars.

Baking Soda & Baking Powder Gives the cookies a slight rise.

M&M’s –I boughtchocolate M&M’sat my local grocery store. Sometimes they are tricky to find, so you may use Smarties or other chocolate candies too.

White Chocolate Chips I recommend using high quality white chocolate. Cheap white chocolate burns.

Pretzels I used crunchy pretzels that were broken up in little pieces.

Potato Chips I used regular Lays, but you can use any kind of potato chip.

Valentine’s Sprinkles I recommend using jimmies as they won’t melt into the dough as much

Expert Baking Tips

Here are a few expert baking tips from my kitchen to yours

Measure your flour properly. Do not just stick the cup in the flour bag, this will compact it and lead to more flour than you need. More flour = dry, crumbly cookies. One of the best investments you can get for baking is a gram scale! If you don’t have a gram scale, sprinkle spoonfuls of flour into your measuring cup and swipe any excess flour off with the back of a knife.

When the cookies are just out of the oven, use a large circular cup or bowl and swirl it around each cookie a few times. Since there’s so much going on in these cookies, they tend to bake imperfectly. Swirling will help to push everything together into a perfect circle!

Top off the cookies with extra add-ins to make them look extra pretty!

Using an electric mixer is not mandatory, but it does help you save a lot of time and elbow grease!

The key to soft & chewy cookies is to take them out while the center still looks a tiny bit greasy and wet. They will continue to bake on the hot pan and firm up as they cool!

FAQ

Why are they called kitchen sink cookies?

These cookies are called kitchen sink cookies because they are made with “everything but the kitchen sink”! Essentially you can add in anything you find in your pantry, sweet or salty!

Can I make the dough ahead of time and chill it?

Yes, make the dough and cover the bowl with saran wrap. It will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days. Bring the dough to room temperature before baking.

Can I add in any add-ins?

Absolutely! That’s the beauty of this recipe. This recipe already has so much going on, so I would swap ingredients rather than add-in more. Some other fun things to try would be oats, butterscotch chips, peanuts, cranberries, and dark chocolate chips!

Can I make smaller cookies?

Absolutely! Just keep an eye on the baking time.

Storing & Freezing

Storing Baked Cookies: After the cookies have completely cooled, you can put them in an airtight container and keep them on the counter for up to 4 days.

How to Freeze Baked Cookies: You can freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months. Once they are completely cooled, place in a freezer bag or air-tight container so they stay fresh.

How to Freeze Cookie Dough: If you’d like to freeze the prepared cookie dough, scoop the cookies into balls and place on a baking sheet or tray lined with parchment paper. Place the sheet into the freezer until the balls are firm. Sometimes this can be bulky, so once they’ve firmed up you may transfer the balls to a freezer bag.

The cookie dough balls may be frozen for up to 3 months. When ready to bake, remove from the freezer and bake cold. Add a few minutes to the baking time.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

  • Add butter, dark brown sugar, and white sugar to a large bowl. Cream together with an electric mixer on medium speed for two minutes until light and fluffy.

3/4 cups unsalted butter, 3/4 cups dark brown sugar, 1/4 cup white sugar

  • Add in egg yolks and vanilla and mix on medium speed until the mixture is pale in colour and fluffy. About 2 minutes

2 egg yolks, 2 tbsp vanilla

  • Toss in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until just combined and no flour streaks appear.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt

  • Now for the best part! Add in all of your add-ins; M&M's, white chocolate chips, pretzel & potato chip pieces, and sprinkles. Gently fold in with a spatula until just combined.

1/3 cup potato chips, 1/3 cup pretzel pieces, 1/2 cup Valentine's Day M&M's, 1/4 cup white chocolate chips, 2 tbsp Valentine's Day sprinkles

  • Scoop the dough and bake 6 at a time. Bake for 10-12 minutes. It took me 12 minutes.

  • Tip: If you're having trouble with your cookies flattening, remove from oven 10 minutes in and gently press down with a flat surface like the bottom of a cup. Then, place back into the oven for 2-3 minutes until the edges are a light golden brown.

  • *Optional step* When the cookies are straight out of the oven, use a circular glass and lightly swirl the glass around each cookie. This will give you those perfect circles!

  • Allow the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack. Add extra toppings (optional) & enjoy!
