Super Bowl spending expected to reach a record $86 per person (2024)

ASHLAND— Super Bowl spending on food, drinks, and other game day purchases is expected to reach a record$17.3 billion, or $86.04 per person, this year, accordingto the National Retail Federation(NRF).

In 2023, consumers spent $16.5 billion, and approximately 79% of that was spent on food and beverages, compared to 80% this year.

Dorothy Eads, a customer at Moser's Foods, said she bought snacks for the Super Bowl earlier in the week.

"Watch the prices," Eads said. "Be careful of what you buy because it may be more than you expect when you get to the checkout."

Of all the things people spend money on when preparing for the Super Bowl, including TVs and team merchandise, food and beverage make up the highest percentage of overall spending, according to the theNRF'sspending survey.

Bridget Canaday, co-owner of Word of Mouth Catering and Carryout, said her business has been making "Super Snacks" for customers for years.

Super Snacks include charcuterie trays, antipasta vegetables and cheese, pizza rolls, loose meat, puppy chow, and brownies.

When asked if she's seen an increase in the cost of her ingredients, Canaday said yes.

"Definitely supplies have gone up," Canaday said. "Things like cheese, meat of course, dairy and eggs."

She said one way she suggests to cut costs is to make charcuterie boards.

"It's extremely economical,"Canaday said.

Rachel Pounds, co-owner of Word of Mouth, said it's not too late for people to grab Super Snacks. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday.
