One of the new features introduced in the Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor DLC is Max Soup, an easier way to get Gigantamax Pokémon.
Gigantamax Pokémon are a new phenomenon in the Pokémon world. While all Pokémon have the ability to Dynamax, which grows the Pokémon to kaiju heights and gives them access to new powerful attacks, Gigantamax are only available to a select species of Pokémon. This new power up gives these Pokémon a new look and exclusive attack that only it can learn.
Not all Pokémon of that species can Giganatamax, however, and the only ones who were available in Sword and Shield were in Max Raid Battles or the Charmander Leon gifts you upon completing the game or the Bulbasaur and Squirtle that players receive in The Isle of Armor.
But now that Max Soup is available in Sword and Shield, here's everything you need to know about this new item and how to use it.
HOW TO MAKE MAX SOUP IN POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD
Trainers don't gain access to the Max Soup feature until they complete Mustard's second trial.
This trial is specifically about Max Soup and Mustard will task you and his other students to find Max Mushrooms around The Isle of Armor. Mustard will instruct you where to find the Max Mushrooms, and once you do and bring them back to the dojo you'll gain access to making Max Soup in the kitchen whenever you want.
Max Soup requires three Max Mushrooms to make and is a one-use item.
HOW TO FIND MAX MUSHROOMS
Max Mushrooms are extremely rare items that are found on The Isle of Armor. Max Mushrooms can be found in the following locations:
- Brawler's Cave
- Warm-Up Tunnel
- Forest of Focus
- Courageous Cavern
Max Mushrooms will naturally spawn in these areas over time at a slow rate. If you want to get more Max Mushrooms at a faster rate, completing Max Raid Battles are key. Defeating three Max Raid Battles will cause one Max Mushroom to bloom in The Isle of Armor.
That means to complete a Max Soup, trainers will need to finish nine Max Raid battles.
WHICH POKEMON CAN YOU FEED MAX SOUP TO
As stated above, only certain species of Pokémon can Gigantamax. The Max Soup feature will allow trainers with these Pokémon that don't have the capability to Gigantamax to gain it.
This is great for trainers who have a Shiny Charizard that can't Gigantamax or a perfectly bred and trained Gengar stashed away in their PC. This is also the way to get a Gigantamax Rillaboom, Cinderace and Intelleon, who were introduced in The Isle of Armor DLC.
This is also how your Ushifu will be able to Gigantamax in the game.
It should be noted that giving Max Soup to a Pokémon that already has the capability of Gigantamaxing will make it lose that ability.
Here's a list of Pokémon that can be fed Max Soup to gain (or lose) Gigantamax:
- Charizard
- Venusaur
- Blastoise
- Butterfree
- Machamp
- Gengar
- Kingler
- Lapras
- Grimmsnarl
- Hatterene
