The ultimate Vegan and Gluten Free Energy Bites Recipe! Packed with plant based protein, healthy fats, and whole grain gluten free oats, these healthy energy bites taste like cookie dough.

Gluten free energy bites have become a staple in our house. They’re a tasty and healthy snack to keep in the fridge for lunch boxes, after school snacks, or any of those on-the-go moments.

These energy bites store well in the freezer, so you can make a double or triple batch and keep some on hand. Just move them to the fridge about half an hour before you’ll want to eat them so they have time to thaw.

I love keeping energy bites on hand to grab on the run (which I often am). This working mom of 4 needs quick and healthy options to keep me fueled all day long!

My kids also love them and we often pack them to soccer games or other sports activities.

How to Make Energy Bites:

All you’ll need are a few healthy, real ingredients like whole grain oats, honey, peanut butter, and sometimes protein powder or other mix-ins.

Energy bites are quick and easy to make. You’ll add all the ingredients to a food processor (I use a mini one) and pulse to combine. The wet ingredients will bind everything together and create a mixture like cookie dough.

If your dough is too dry and crumbly, add a little more almond milk (or other milk of choice). If it’s too sticky, add a tablespoon or two of oats to get the right texture.

Are Energy Bites Healthy?

They can be! Because most recipes use honey or maple syrup as a sweetener and binding agent, energy bites often have quite a bit of sugar. I decided to use OWYN protein powder and almond milk to give these energy bites a creamy texture and sweet flavor without all that added sugar.

Adding protein powder helps stabilize blood sugar levels and will keep you full longer, and each delicious bite has only 2 grams of sugar but still tastes amazing. That means these gluten free energy bites are healthy AND delicious!

Although I used a certain brand, feel free to use your favorite protein powder!

Let’s Talk Gluten Free Oats

When making gluten free energy bites, you’ll want to pay attention to which oats you use. While oats are naturally gluten free, they are often grown on the same fields as wheat and/or harvested with the same equipment. Because of this, oats have a high chance of cross contamination.

Some oats that are labelled ‘gluten free’ still contain dangerous levels of gluten, so we always look for purity protocol oats. These oats have been kept separate from wheat from planting to harvesting, and are tested during the process to ensure they’re safe for celiacs to consume.

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except chocolate chips in a food processor (I use a mini food processor) and pulse until combined.
